Căutȃnd un titlu care se sintetizeze cuvintele despre Rui Palha, mi-a venit ȋn minte o poveste de J. L. Borges, intitulată „Omul cu memoria perfectă” și mă gȃndeam la Rui ca la omul care are o „privire” perfectă….dar nimic mai greșit, pentru că ȋn spatele imaginilor ireprosabile, se ascunde un suflet mare, o bunătate care catalizează actul artistic.

Ȋi cunoșteam deja celebrele fotografii de stradă cȃnd, ȋn 2013, fiind ȋn Lisabona, i-am telefonat pentru a ne ȋntȃlni. A acceptat cu prietenie un rendez-vous, lȃngă statuia lui Fernando Pessoa, pe terasa celebrei Café A Brasileira.

Omul Rui Palha, este extrem de tȃnăr, ȋn ciuda părului alb, cu plăcerea unei cafele bune și mai ales a unei discuţii despre fotografie. Bineȋnţeles că am discutat despre ale noastre, cu problemele fotografului de stradă, cum se face, cum o iei la fugă cȃnd se supară subiectul, ce camere foto folosim….și mai ales, că nu este nevoie de echipament sofisticat pentru fotografia de calitate, ci mult mai importante sunt pasiunea și perseverenţa.

Născut ȋn 1953, pe 14 aprilie, micul Rui ȋncepe să cunoască și să iubească fotografia de la 14 ani, apoi a avut un hiatus, destinul  aducȃndu-l ȋnapoi ȋn fotografie, după o cumpană declanșată de o inimă prea „mare”.

Despre opera lui Rui Palha este mult de povestit sau de privit….apreciată unanim ȋntrunește calităţile artei cu cele ale jurnalismului rafinat. Linia umbrei ȋnsoţește perfect compoziţia pentru a contura lumina și minunata epică. Aici cred că se potriveste acel citat celebru al lui Leonardo: 

Umbra este mijlocul prin care corpurile îşi arată forma. Forma corpurilor nu poate fi înţeleasa în detaliu fără umbră.

Rui ne ȋnvaţă că dincolo de imagine, există dorinţa de libertate, o lecţie esenţială pentru un pasionat de fotografie, dar și pentru oricine  dorește profunzime ȋn viaţă.

Aici aș putea să ȋl citez : 

Fotografia este o parte foarte importantă a spațiului meu … este despre a descoperi, este despre  a capta  ceea ce simte și vede inima într-un anumit moment, este pe stradă, trăiește, înțelege, învață și, practic, practică libertatea de a fi, de a trăi, de a gândi …”

La mulţi ani, Rui Palha! Ȋţi mulţumim și te așteptăm cu aceeași energie pozitivă și inspiraţie ca ȋntotdeauna….

The eulogy of the shadow that conveys the light

Looking for a title that synthesizes the words about Rui Palha, I came to mind a JL Borges story titled „The Man with Perfect Memory,” and I was thinking of Rui as the man who has a perfect „look” … but nothing more wrong, because behind the impeccable images, there is a great soul, a kindness that catalyses the artistic act.

I already knew the famous street photos when I was in Lisbon in 2013, I called them to meet us. He accepted with friendship a rendezvous with the statue of Fernando Pessoa, on the terrace of the famous Café A Brasileira.

Man Rui Palha is extremely young, despite his white hair, with the pleasure of a good coffee and especially a discussion about photography. Of course we talked about ours, the street photographer’s problems; how to do it, how do you run away when the subject is upset, what cameras we use … and especially that there is no need for sophisticated equipment for quality photography but more important passion and perseverance.

Born in 1953, on April 14, little Rui begins to get to know and love his photo at the age of 14, then has a hiatus, his destiny bringing him back to the photo after a crunch triggered by a too big heart.

About Rui Palha’s work is much to be told or viewed … appreciated unanimously meets the qualities of art with those of refined journalism. The shadow line perfectly accompanies the composition to shape the light and the wonderful epic. Here I think Leonardo’s famous quote matches:

Shadow is the way the bodies look their shape. The shape of the bodies cannot be understood in detail without shadow.

Rui teaches us that beyond the image there is a desire for freedom, an essential lesson for a photo enthusiast, but also for anyone who wants depth in life.

Here I could quote:

Photography is a very important part of my space … is to discover, is to capture what feels and sees the heart at a certain moment, is on the street, lives, understands, teaches and practically practice the freedom to be, to live, to think … „
